No compromise on sale of fake academic certificates, says Higher Education Minister

PETALING JAYA: There will be no compromise for the sale of fake academic certificates, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

“We will ensure that there will be immediate action taken to address this, and I have also instructed that a police report should also be made,” the Higher Education Minister said in a video uploaded by the ministry on Thursday (Aug 1).

He also said that he believes that the Education Ministry, led by its minister Fadhlina Sidek, will follow the same approach since it involves issuing certificates under the ministry's authority.

“This creates confusion among the public, with some people questioning its authenticity because it features both our national coat of arms and the Education Ministry’s logo.

“For those who are less familiar with such activities, then they may be at risk of being deceived,” he said.

The Higher Education Minister was addressing a report by a Malay daily on Wednesday (July 31) about the sale of fake certificates online, ranging from school to higher education levels.

He urged institutions to prevent scam groups from using their university's name to carry out their fraudulent activities.

“We should not allow this kind of misuse to occur.

“It's similar to scammers we know today who use different tactics to illegally make money through their schemes,” he said.
