Man, 83, reappears from orchard after reported missing for two days in Sabah

Adau Tangas, who walked out of the orchard himself, was reported to be in stable condition despite being missing for two days.

KOTA KINABALU: An elderly man was found unharmed two days after being reported missing, having walked out from his orchard in Kampung Tambilidon, Pitas.

Adau Tangas, 83, had left home on Sunday (July 21) morning to visit his orchard. When he failed to return, his family notified the Fire and Rescue Services Department at 10.30am the following day, prompting a search operation by the Kota Marudu station.

“The search team, led by Radzly Bakar, divided themselves into three sectors, and combed an area of 10 acres, using a zigzag method with a search radius of three-kilometres.

"The operation saw the collaboration of our K9 unit, police, members of the Malaysia Volunteers Corps Department (Rela), and villagers," said Kota Marudu Fire Station chief Mohd Hasbi Hajat.

After a search operation lasting two days, Adau reappeared from the orchard, located just a kilometre from his home, at 4.40pm on Tuesday (July 23). Villagers discovered him and quickly alerted the authorities.

Adau was later handed to the police and after a brief medical examination, he was reported to be in stable condition.

“The operation was called off at 5pm,” said Mohd Hasbi.
