Gombak cops conduct evidence disposal

GOMBAK: Case items and evidence, including bitcoin mining machines and electronic devices from concluded court cases, worth RM1.3mil were disposed of by the district police here.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the items comprised evidence from 912 investigation papers between 2020 and this year.

“The items were from court cases that have been concluded.

“The disposal of the evidence has been approved by the courts and relevant authorities,” he told reporters after the disposal event at Gombak district police headquarters yesterday.

The evidence consisted of 183,111 case items from cases investigated by the Gombak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and 100 items from cases conducted by the Gombak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), he said.

Among the items were 2,650 electronic devices, 316 bitcoin mining machines, 112,730 boxes of cigarettes and 9,940 bottles of liquor.ACP Noor Ariffin said the case items would be disposed of using the ewaste method, and destroyed through burning and burying.

Among those who attended the event were Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taib as well as magistrates and deputy public prosecutors.

On another matter, ACP Noor Ariffin said the police were still waiting for the chemist report on a food poisoning incident that killed two individuals last month.

“We have recorded the statements of 22 individuals,” he said.

It was reported that the incident led to two deaths after family members brought food back from a school event on June 8.

A 17-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl died days later after consuming what health authorities believe to be a meal of fried bihun and fried eggs served at a school event.
