Former Exist lead vocalist Mamat fined RM4,000 for drug use

JOHOR BARU: Mamat, the former lead vocalist for the band Exist, has pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here on Monday (July 8) for drug use.

According to Sinar Harian, Judge Fatimah Zahari also ordered Mamat, 47, whose real name is Mohd Ali Kamarudin, to two years of supervision under the National Anti-Drug Agency in Bentong, Pahang.

Based on the amended charge, he was charged with taking methamphetamine at 2am on Sept 9, 2019.

The charges were made under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1) of the same Act.

Mamat has a record of prior drug offences in 2016 and 2018.

The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Bariah Jalil, while Mamat was represented by counsel Azlina Abdul Aziz.

He later paid the RM4,000 fine.
