IPOH: The state government will discuss the proposal to move Sekolah Raja Perempuan Taayah from here to Seri Iskandar with the relevant stakeholders, says Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

He said that as of now, the state has yet to make any stand or decision on the matter.

"It has not come to my attention whether an official complaint was made or if it was just talk.

"We have to be fair to all parties, (and) we will consider (opinions from) those who made the proposal and those who are against it. There are pros and cons," he said.

Saarani said this at a press conference after presenting appointment letters to representatives from the state government who will go to the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak at his office on Wednesday (June 12).

Saarani was asked to comment on talk among the school's alumni on social media about the relocation proposal.

"At this stage, until we can sit down and discuss it, we do not have a stand yet," he said. Whatever we do, it will be what is best for the pupils," he added.

On the appointment of the 25 representatives from the state government to the games in Sarawak, which will be held from Aug 17 to 24, Saarani said they consist of state executive council members, representatives from state departments and government-linked companies and sporting associations.

"The nine state exco members, five representatives from state department and agencies and 11 members from the state sports council have been appointed to smoothen the preparation for the games.

"They will all help with the management and the operations of the respective teams and secretariat effectively," he said.

"We want to prove that it is not only the athletes who will be fighting for the state, but those from the state government and government-linked companies as well.

"We want the athletes to feel they are being backed with strong support from the state government," he added.

When asked about the state's medal haul target, Saarani said "As many as we can get".

At the 20th Sukma in Kuala Lumpur, Perak came in eighth place with 27 gold medals, 28 silver and 46 bronze while first spot went to Johor with 77 gold, 52 silver and 43 bronze.

About 900 athletes from Perak would be taking part in the games this year.
