Strong earthquake hits Tonga


KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, hit the Tonga Islands at 4.47am on Monday (May 27), reported the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 752km east of Laucala Island, Fiji at a depth of 138km.

The quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it added. - Bernama
