Youths in hot water with police after cooking at Genting petrol station

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have started an investigation into a group of individuals recently found engaging in a "picnic" session and cooking on a gas stove at a petrol station in Genting Highlands, Pahang.

Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said police received a report regarding a 50-second long video clip which went viral on social media, showing cooking activities at the petrol station.

"The result of the investigation found that the video clip had gone viral on X, and was uploaded on May 13, and is believed to have been done by a group of vehicle owners, causing concern and annoyance to the public,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 15).

He said the case was being investigated under Section 268 of the Penal Code for public nuisance and Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering life or the personal safety of others.

Supt Zaiham also requested the cooperation of any parties who witnessed the incident to come forward to help with the investigation.

Police will take decisive action and carry out integrated operations around the petrol station, especially on weekends and public holidays.

"The move taken after police received information and complaints that the location is often the focus of vehicle owners gathering and doing activities which disturb public order, and other motorists who pass through the location,” he said, according to Bernama.

It was reported that a group of youths had provoked anger online by uploading a video of themselves cooking at a petrol station in Genting Highlands.

The video has since gone viral on TikTok and other social media platforms.

The youths were seen in the video using two portable stoves to cook instant noodles and other food while parked at the gas station.

The area appears crowded with cars, seemingly blocked by the teenagers who are also seen relaxing in their "healing chairs".

The video was titled: "Went to Genting, cooked instant noodles. Looks like we're opening stalls and doing business here."
