No discussion yet on replacement for Mutang

PUTRAJAYA: There has yet to be any discussion on who will fill the vacancy for the Dewan Negara president post, says Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the appointment would be up to the discretion of the Prime Minister, who would present this to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for consent.

"There has been no discussions (on the position of the Dewan Negara president).

"Who will be appointed, from which party or from which state - this has not been determined yet,” he said when met after chairing the National Science Council meeting on Tuesday (May 14)

Dewan Negara president Datuk Mutang Tagal died on May 10. He was 69.

The former Bukit Mas MP was appointed as the 20th president of the Dewan Negara on Feb 19, replacing Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who relinquished the post following his appointment as the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak.

Mutang made history as the first leader from the Lun Bawang ethnic group to be appointed as the Senate president.
