15-year-old girl found dead after fire razes her Ranau home


KOTA KINABALU: The body of a 15-year-old girl was found after her house was destroyed in a fire in the Ranau district during the wee hours of Tuesday (Aug 14).

A spokesman for the Operations Center (PGO) of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department said that the remains were found by firemen inside the razed house in Kampung Lasing.

No immediate details were available about the girl and the number of people inside the house.

"The victim's body was handed over to the police for further action," the spokesman said.

Firemen received a distress call at 1.36am.

"A total of eight members from the Ranau Fire Station rushed to the scene and found that a semi-permanent house had burned down completely.

"After ensuring that there was no other danger at the location of the incident, the operation was terminated at 4.26am," the spokesman said in a statement.
