No compromise for policemen committing crimes, integrity issues, says Sabah top cop

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Jikun has issued a strong warning that he will show no mercy to any of his officers or personnel found to have committed crimes or have integrity issues.

Jauteh said the presence of such policemen, whom he considered “parasites,” would only damage the image of the force, which is responsible for protecting the people and community.

While there were few such individuals in the police force, he said it would still create a problem in their organisation.

“We do not want this matter to happen in the police, particularly in the Sabah contingent. If we detect wrongdoing, we will not compromise or protect the offender but instead take firm action,” he said at the city police headquarters here on Tuesday (April 30).

Jauteh earlier witnessed outgoing Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah handing over duties to new chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda.

The state Police Commissioner added that any officer or personnel suspected of wrongdoing would be thoroughly probed according to their alleged crimes.

He said policemen who defied the law, including protecting criminals, are no different than the criminals themselves.

“Such reminders have been given repeatedly, especially when there are raids to weed out undocumented migrants and crime prevention operations (but) there are some who try to take advantage.

“The same reminder goes to the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) units, clean up and change the community’s perception of the MPV division,” Jauteh said.

He said they have identified suspects, and if they were proven to have misconducted, they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, adding that some personnel have been jailed and hoped there will be no more such offenders.
