Motorcyclist dies after being hit by van in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he was hit by a van coming from the opposite direction along Jalan Merotai Bombalai in Tawau on Sunday (April 28) evening.

Muhammad Zamree Muhammad Juhtar, believed to be a cook at a restaurant in Tawau town, was riding towards Merotai before losing control of his motorcycle.

He reportedly collided with another motorcycle and fell onto the oncoming lane.

“The victim was then hit by a van travelling from Keningau towards Tawau town, and succumbed to serious head injuries at the scene,” Tawau OCPD Assistant Comm Jasmin Hussin said in a statement on Monday (April 29).

He added that the other motorcyclist, aged 24, suffered minor injuries while the 41-year-old van driver escaped unhurt.

Jasmin said the case would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
