A GANG of small-time drug dealers in Tamil Nadu state attacked a couple of policemen in broad daylight, Malaysia Nanban reported.

It happened when two policemen were supposed to escort a man, identified only as Umapathi, to the Kannagi Nagar police station for questioning.

Instead of complying, Umapati and his friends attacked the officers with stones and rocks.

One of the men broke a beer bottle and slashed the policemen. Umapathi and this attacked fled after the fight and Kannagi Nagar police are looking for the two wanted men.

The injured policemen are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The attack has left the neighbourhood in shock.

Umapathi, who is from a small town near Chennai, was earlier sought for questioning as he had been accused of crimes ranging from attempted murder to drug pushing.

He is suspected to have attacked two men from the same area in a dispute a few days ago.
