Ops Selamat: 16 deaths, 1,288 accidents recorded on fourth day

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,288 accidents were recorded on the fourth day of the Ops Selamat in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.

Police, in a Facebook post on Friday (April 12), said that 16 deaths also occurred on April 11.

On Thursday (April 11), Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain called on motorists to be patient and courteous with each other on the road, especially as they head out on long journeys during the festive season.

He said traffic rules are in place to ensure the safety of all road users.

“Carelessness and impatience have no place on our roads and expressways. Please be patient with one another when you take to the roads,” he was quoted saying.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad had previously estimated that a total of 2.1 million vehicles per day would use the North-South Expressway during the festive period compared with 1.82 million vehicles during normal peak hours.

The increase is also due to the two-day toll exemption for all highway users of Class 1 (private vehicles) on April 8 and 9.
