Man who tried to ram cops in Taiping said to be involved in burglary cases

IPOH: A suspect who tried to run over police in Taiping to evade capture is believed to be responsible for several house break-ins.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Nasir Ismail said policemen from the Kamunting station were on crime prevention rounds at about 5.45pm on Sunday (April 7) when they tried to stop a car.

However, he said, the suspect started to drive dangerously, hitting several other cars and trying to run over the policemen.

“They managed to arrest the suspect, and checks of the car found equipment believed to be used for break-ins.

“His urine test came back positive for drugs, and the investigation is being carried out under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempted murder) and Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958,” he said on Wednesday (April 10).

ACP Mohamad Nasir said thanks to the swift action by the police team, the suspect was apprehended without any bystanders getting hurt.

He added that police believed they had solved several break-in cases around Taiping and Selama with the arrest.
