JOHOR BARU: Police in Johor say that they have crippled a drug distribution gang here – with the arrest of four people and the seizure of drugs worth RM2.2mil in separate raids.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said the raids were carried out from 1.30pm to 9pm on April 2.

Three men, aged between 32 and 51, and a 32-year-old foreign woman were detained at a double-storey house in Bandar Jaya Putra, he added.

“One of the suspects led police to another house in Seri Alam where we found the drugs,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said the gang was believed to have been active since January this year.

Comm Kumar said the group’s modus operandi would be to purchase drugs from other states and re-pack them into smaller packets before selling them at entertainment centres.

“In total, we seized 13.2kg of ecstasy powder stored inside 345 packets and three containers, 10g of ecstasy pills, 1.2g of ketamine and 24.7g of syabu,” he said.

Comm Kumar added that the police also confiscated a car worth RM110,000, a motorcycle, a gold ring and RM5,300 in cash.

He said all suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

He added that police were tracking down the owner of the second house that the gang had used as a store and repackaging centre.

The suspects have been remanded until April 9, he said.

On the state’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, Comm Kumar said a total of 6,992 people had been arrested for various offences as of April 3.

The department also seized 1.6 tonnes of drugs worth RM10.6mil and other items worth RM4.7mil, he added.
