Myanmar duo acquitted of murdering workplace supervisor


SEREMBAN: Two Myanmar nationals were acquitted and discharged by the High Court here of murdering their workplace supervisor.

Judge Rohani Ismail in her decision said the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Maung Maung, 45 and Mg Aung Aung, 33.

"The court hereby acquits and discharges both the accused without calling for their defence," she said.

The friends were charged with the murder of 22-year-old Ajith Almaraj, who was an Indian national, at a petrol station at Metro Park near here around 2.30am on July 1, 2020.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation.

Maung Maung was represented by Datuk Hanif Hassan while Haresh Mahadevan and Ramzani Idris appeared for Mg Aung Aung.

Mohd Hadi Hakimi Harun prosecuted.

The media had in 2020 reported that police found the remains of the deceased near a car wash at the petrol station around 4am after getting a call from the public.

The victim had injuries to his neck and back.
