Madani raya shopping targets RM1.6mil sales

PUTRAJAYA: About RM1.6mil in revenue is expected to be made from a special Madani Raya Sales programme meant to help about 500 micro, small and medium firms and cooperatives, says Datuk Ewon Benedick.

The 33-day 2024 Madani Raya Sales Programme (PJMR) offers discounts of up to 20% for clothes, food, kitchen and household utensils for the upcoming Aidilfitri festival, said Benedict, who is Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development Minister.

The ministry-organised sales carnival started on March 8 and is expected to wrap up by April 9.

“As of March 22, we recorded RM415,800 in sales with 44,212 visitors. Hopefully sales at the 60 booths will continue to increase,” he told Bernama after a walkabout at the PJMR 2024 at Dataran Anjung Syawal, Precinct 3, on Wednesday.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk R. Ramanan and the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad.

Benedict said PJMR, held in conjunction with the Putrajaya Ramadan Festival 2024, is also aimed at helping consumers deal with rising inflation.

PJMR 2024 involved the participation of 28 entrepreneurs and 13 cooperatives.

Besides the physical carnival, the ministry had also organised a digital sales campaign through MyMall called “Mari Beli Lokal – Ramadan dan Raya 2024”.

“The campaign takes advantage of the popularity of online shopping for those who want to the holiday rush,” he said.

The Let’s Buy Local – Ramadan and Raya 2024 campaign, which is organised for the second time, is aiming to earn RM2.5mil in sales revenue from local entrepreneurs.
