GEORGE TOWN: Three friends reconnected with one another for buka puasa by gathering at the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, rekindling their bond after a long period of not seeing each other.

Nurul Fatin Idayu, Nur Liana Ramli and Izzah Ahmad, all aged 28, were spotted preparing to break fast below the pillars of the bridge on Thursday.

They have been friends since their secondary school years.

Their work schedules, however, had made it difficult to meet up often.

Nur Liana initiated the get-together, and the gathering marked a nice change from their routine of breaking fast at home since March 12.

“By chance, we ended up working at the same factory in Bayan Lepas. We did not join together but at different times.”

So, the friends bought food and drinks from their canteen to break fast together near the bridge.

“I like the view here. And there is an open-air food court here to get additional food in case we are still hungry.”

“It was great that we got to catch up with one another,” she added.

Their gathering was not the only one at the bridge; many others, including families, were also spotted there.

Among them was Safri Said, 40, a fire and rescue services personnel, who got there with his wife and four children, aged between three and 10.

“I left my office, which is the Penang fire and rescue services headquarters in Batu Kawan, after work to buy food. Then I went home to pick up my family before making my way here.

“This is my first experience breaking fast here. I like this place as it is nice and relaxing with a pleasant breeze. I foresee myself coming back soon,” he said.
