Penang gets RM2.5mil boost for hospital, district police HQ upgrades


BUKIT MERTAJAM: RM2.5mil has been allocated for the Seberang Jaya Hospital and upgrading of police quarters in Penang here, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said RM1mil was allocated for the immediate needs of the hospital's upgrade project after visiting the hospital on Saturday (March 10).

The money is for additional ultrasound devices, water tanks and a breastfeeding room.

Later, Anwar visited the central Seberang Prai district police headquarters and said that RM500,000 was allocated towards building a surau and another RM1mil to upgrade the police quarters in Seberang Jaya.

Also present was Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

It was reported that upgrading Seberang Jaya Hospital at a cost of RM368mil had begun in 2016.

Once the project is completed, the hospital will get an additional 315 beds, in addition to improved bedding and intensive care unit facilities, as well as more parking spaces.
