KUALA LUMPUR: There was no additional cost involved in the formation of the Federal Territories ministry, said Dr Zaliha Mustafa (pic).

In a Parliamentary written reply dated March 7, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said this was because the ministry was not actually revived.

It was previously a department under the Prime Minister’s Department.

“The decision to maintain the Federal Territories Department under the Prime Minister’s Department and appoint a minister is to strengthen the management aspect of the Federal Territories in terms of planning, coordination, monitoring and policy making so that it is more organised and transparent in line with the visions of the Prime Minister,” she said.

She was responding to a question by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman) on the cost implication and the expenses incurred in relation to the abolition and revival of the ministry.

For the record, the Federal Territories Ministry was reduced to a department after the formation of the unity government, but was rebooted into a ministry under the Prime Minister’s Department during the cabinet reshuffle in December 2023.
