Dr Wee pledges to continue echoing the people's voice

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he will play his role as a Member of Parliament to echo the rakyat’s voice for the good of the country.

When interacting with visitors and leaders outside the august hall, the MCA president said some people had asked him to continue pushing for the return of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“Outside the Dewan Rakyat, I do not just get to interact with leaders and MPs from different parties, I also often receive feedback from Parliament visitors.

“As an elected representative, it is my responsibility to carry the voices of the people which are relevant and beneficial to the country,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday (March 5).

Dr Wee has been consistently raising the proposal to bring back GST as opposed to new taxes.

On Feb 21, he said there was nothing wrong in bringing back initiatives from the previous government if it was for the betterment of the people.

He added that old initiatives such as the GST would be better suited to addressing the country's current economic issues as opposed to the low-value goods (LVG) tax and the increase of the sales and service tax (SST) rate to 8%.
