Schools in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu to operate as usual on Oct 11

PETALING JAYA: All schools and institutions in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu under the Education Ministry will operate as normal on Sunday (Oct 11) as air quality has improved in the three states.

"Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will operate as usual tomorrow (Oct 11, 2026), as Air Pollutant Index (API) readings remain within manageable levels.

"The Education Ministry will continue to monitor air quality developments on an ongoing basis," Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said in a brief statement on Facebook.

The ministry had directed all educational institutions under its purview in areas with API readings exceeding 180 to close starting Oct 9, while those in areas recording readings above 150 for three consecutive days are to close from Oct 12.

The closures are to protect the health and safety of students and educators from the haze.
