KOTA KINABALU: Criticism of the government needs to be constructive and done with maturity, says a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah leader.
GRS youth information chief Steve Johnny Mositun said everyone has the right to voice grievances and problems faced by the people and the country, but it should be done on the right platform.
“In our intention to voice our thoughts and suggestions, we must remember this is a country with laws,” he said in a statement.
This comes after he filed a police report against a Facebook user named Angelina Peace for supposedly using Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s face in memes and on social media platforms to insult the leader.
Steve said such actions do not portray a mature society or responsible behaviour.
“There is a limit to everything we do, see, write and post. Do not overstep that boundary,” he warned.
He said he understood the grouses faced by the people on the ground amid the development plans and initiatives the government is trying to push and see done.
Still, he reminded the public to use the proper methods to voice these dissatisfactions.
“Sabahans are known for their high level of tolerance, so let us become an example for all and not make toxic postings that can cause fights,” said Steve.
He said more awareness on such matters and Acts concerning limits to any form of postings should be made from a young age in schools and other agencies.
Earlier, it was found that the user had allegedly used a photo cutting of Hajiji’s head and edited it into several of her posts, complaining about problems including potholes in Sabah.
