Cops in JB extortion case transferred out of Seri Alam HQ

JOHOR BARU: Ten policemen arrested for extortion, one of them an inspector, have been transferred out of Seri Alam police headquarters.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said they have been placed in other districts in the state while the investigation is conducted.

“We are in the final stages of the probe. Once it is completed, the case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for (further) action.

“For the time being, the 10 of them, aged 22 to 55, have been transferred,” he told a press conference after the state police monthly assembly here on Tuesday (Feb 27).

On Jan 29, police reportedly received a report about a RM35,000 extortion case involving policemen attached to the Seri Alam Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

The case was said to involve the family of a suspect who was earlier arrested for a drug offence.

Following that, the 10 were detained for investigations under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
