Two motorcyclists dead, another seriously hurt in interior Sabah accidents

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were killed and another seriously hurt in separate accidents involving motorcycles in the Sook area in the early hours of Sunday (Feb 25).

The two who died were motorcycle riders Rain Dahap, 26 and Juanis Uvil, 30, while the injured victim was a 23-year-old rider who suffered injuries to their face and body.

Keningau police chief Supt Yampil Garai said the first accident involving Rain occurred at 12.15am at KM3 Jalan Sook Tulid.

The victim was heading to Tulid from Sook when he lost control of the motorcycle and it crashed to the roadside.

“The man sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot,” he said when contacted.

In the second mishap, he said, two motorcyclists crashed off the road while turning at a bend at KM5 Jalan Sook Tulid at about 2am.

He said both motorcyclists were heading to Tulid, with one of them trailing the other.

Both had lost control when negotiating a bend before they crashed to the roadside, Supt Yampil said.

He added Juanis died at the scene due to serious head injuries while the other motorcyclist was hurt in the face and body.

The injured victim was then rushed to the Keningau hospital for further treatment, adding an autopsy would be done on the victims who died later on Sunday.

“Both accidents are still being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
