Teenager sustains second-degree burns in JB fire

JOHOR BARU: A teenage boy sustained second-degree burns on his head during a fire at two single-storey terrace houses and a kindergarten on Jalan Ledang in Taman Johor here on Monday (Feb 12).

Larkin fire station chief Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said a distress call was received at 8.25pm.

A total of 28 personnel in several fire engines were dispatched to the scene, he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 13).

The 17-year-old victim, who was asleep when the fire broke out, was saved by members of the public.

According to Mohd Suhaimi, the fire nearly destroyed one terrace house and slightly damaged the adjacent one.

The kindergarten was 30% burnt, and four motorcycles were also damaged, he added.

"The victim was given first aid by an emergency response team and sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for additional treatment," he said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Mohd Suhaimi added. – Bernama
