Kampung Poh water surge tragedy: Boy found drowned, two still missing

TAPAH: Another victim of the water tragedy in Sungai Kenjur, Kampung Poh - a young boy - was found drowned at 9.50pm on Wednesday.

Tapah District Police chief Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi said that the four-year-old boy was believed to be the son of Aszura Bani, 37, the first victim found drowned about 600 metres from the scene.

"With the help of villagers, the boy was found on the riverbank, entangled in a wooden branch," he told reporters here on Wednesday (Feb 7) night.

At about 4pm on the same day, six family members and a domestic helper were trapped in a water surge incident during a picnic at Sungai Kenjur.

In the tragedy, Aszura’s sister, Aslinda Bani, 38, her son Muhammad Adam Mukhris Rozi, 11 and the domestic helper, survived, while two of Aszura's children were still missing.

Earlier at 7.30pm, the search and rescue operation for the victims was suspended and scheduled to resume on Thursday (Feb 8).

However, with the help of villagers who took the initiative to continue the search, they managed to find the boy’s body.

Meanwhile, Mohd Naim advised the public to be cautious when engaging in water-related activities during the Northeast Monsoon season. - Bernama
