KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah police have arrested a couple for the illegal sale of air rifles, bullets as well as contraband cigarettes and alcohol in the interior district of Nabawan.

Sabah Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said a 33-year-old man was arrested at a sundry shop at Kampung Sarikan Jalan while his 40-year-old wife was nabbed in Kampung Lima Lumintok on Tuesday (Feb 6).

He said the raids were carried out simultaneously by the special investigation (D9) unit and the state police's Special Branch.

"We found six air rifles, various accessories as well as hundreds of bullets," he said on Wednesday (Feb 7) adding that police also found an assortment of alcoholic drinks and cigarettes with unpaid duties.

"We estimate the seized items are worth about RM60,000," he added.

SAC Azmi said they were investigating where the couple obtained the firearms and that the case was being investigated under the Firearms Act and the Customs Act.
