Exhausted Najib ‘very, very disappointed’

PETALING JAYA: An exhausted Datuk Seri Najib Razak is “very, very disappointed” at not getting a full pardon, says his daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib (pic).

Nooryana, who is better known as Yana, said the ex-prime minister told her this when she visited him at the Sungai Buloh prison following the Pardons Board’s decision to commute his sentence rather than grant him a full pardon.

“Disappointed, very, very disappointed.

“You know, Yana, the worst feeling is when you are in shock and there is no one to speak to.

“You are lost in your thoughts all alone.”

Nooryana posted the above quote from her father on her Instagram account following her visit on Saturday, a day after the board announced its decision.

A downcast Najib was seen clutching a piece of paper during their meeting, which was the Pardons Board’s decision on Friday to commute Najib’s jail term from 12 years to six.

“His eyes looked tired.

“Maybe Daddy lacks sleep, pondering the decision which was made yesterday (Friday),” she wrote.

Najib’s disappointment may have been due to the fact that because he failed in his pardon application, he has to spend the next four to five years in jail, she wrote.

With the reduced sentence, the board said Najib is due for release on Aug 23, 2028, while his fine has been reduced to RM50mil from RM210mil.

Najib is serving a 12-year sentence after being found guilty of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering in relation to RM42mil that had been syphoned from SRC International, a former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) subsidiary. He was also fined RM210mil.

Despite the dejecting news, she said her father was still doing all that he could to secure his release.

“Take care of yourself. Stay positive.

“There will be a day and a chance for us to be together again,” were Najib’s parting words to his daughter.

Najib is also currently on trial to answer charges of abuse of power that allegedly brought him financial benefit to the tune of RM2.28bil, believed to have been 1MDB funds.
