KUCHING: PETRONAS and its social impact arm Yayasan PETRONAS will provide disaster relief aid to Sarawak in response to recent floods in the state.

This included 1,000 packages of essential items such as blankets, towels and personal care items from Yayasan PETRONAS.

The foundation's senior manager of planning and services Khairunissa Ghazali performed the symbolic handover of the packages to the state Social Welfare Department during the PETRONAS stakeholder appreciation event here on Friday (Feb 2) night.

The contribution was part of 10,000 packages worth RM2.44mil to be distributed by Yayasan PETRONAS throughout the country to assist those affected by floods recently.

PETRONAS also contributed RM30,000 to support the ongoing disaster relief and aid effort in Sarawak in the form of 30 reloadable Mesra gift cards worth RM1,000 each.

This contribution aimed to enable the state's emergency management agencies to efficiently transport essential supplies and personnel to affected areas, PETRONAS said in a statement.

The contribution was handed over by PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali to the Sarawak disaster management committee at the same event.

"PETRONAS is providing immediate assistance to flood victims throughout Malaysia, including in Sarawak.

"We hope our contributions will help alleviate the difficulties they are facing," Zulaihi said.

The symbolic handing over of both contributions was witnessed by deputy state secretary Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.

In his speech earlier, Zulaihi said PETRONAS viewed its presence in Sarawak as more than just an oil and gas partner.

"PETRONAS serves the bigger purpose as a progressive energy and solutions partner to Sarawak while enriching lives for a sustainable future.

"For us, true partnership will successfully create value and solutions more than just monetary worth of its underlying commercial transactions," he said.
