All police supervisors, especially OCPDs, must step up, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: All supervisors in the police force, especially district police chiefs (OCPD), must step up in leading and managing their subordinates, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said supervisors must capture the hearts of their subordinates by inculcating religious elements or motivating them to work together towards higher integrity as well as giving the best service for the people.

"OCPDs must not merely sit on their plush seats and wait for the CID chiefs to send money.

"I don't want to hear of such things anymore. If it still occurs, just leave (the police force), be it OCPDs or senior officers," he said in his speech during a meeting with the police force's top brass, state police chiefs and OCPDs at the Police College recently.

Razarudin said Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay was right when he previously mentioned that the fault lies with the supervisors when it comes to matters of integrity among subordinates.

"Both of us are supervisors as well. Both him and I are the highest level of supervisors. We are responsible to ensure that all actions taken in the police force are in accordance with the law and based on integrity.

"That is why when I talk about issues involving wrongdoing and infringements of the law, I am reminding myself as well," he said.

It is the responsibility of all supervisors to manage and lead their subordinates from all aspects, he said.

"Nowadays, the public are looking at us with their gadgets...if not smartphones, it's with dashcams.

"Thus, we must not act inappropriately. We are here to serve society," he said.

Razarudin said one or two cases of wrongdoing (involving police personnel) have occurred recently.

"It paints a bad image in the eyes of society.

"After this, if there is any case of wrongdoing, I want all OCPDs to report to their respective state police chiefs and the police chiefs report to me immediately," he said.
