KOTA KINABALU: A garbage truck driver has been crushed to death after the vehicle he was in skidded and crashed in the Kinabatangan district.

It is believed that the victim, Mohamad Izuan Mambasang, 39, tried to avoid a pothole near SK Sentosa Jaya, when the accident happened at around 11am Saturday.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said the truck was seen swerving before it skidded and landed on its side.

"The driver was crushed following the accident and was pronounced dead by medical officials on scene," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 14).

He said two others who were in the vehicle, Ahmad Din Ahmad and Muh Saufi Ahmad, sustained injuries but were safe.

"Mohamad's body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination while the two injured were given first aid before they were sent to the hospital for further examination," said Hamsa.

Operations on site ended at 12.40pm after firemen found no more hazardous elements, he said.
