Teen brothers nabbed for stealing judge's car badge

KUALA LUMPUR: An attempt to impress an elder brother ended in trouble with the police going after two brothers for stealing a judge’s car badge.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the driver of a Federal Court Judge lodged a report of the theft at Taman Koperasi Polis Fasa Dua on Jan 8.

"A complaint was received after the driver found that the official vehicle of the judge had been scratched with a sharp object.

"The car’s number plate and judge badge were also removed," he told a press conference at the district police headquarters on Friday (Jan 12).

While early investigation showed little leads, police obtained a breakthrough after viewing the footage of a nearby CCTV.

"Based on information gathered, police arrested two 15-year-old boys at a house in Batu Caves (Selangor).

"Police also seized two sets of clothes and a judge’s car badge," he added.

Investigations showed that both teenagers, who were brothers, had vandalised the car on their way home after playing at a nearby football field.

The younger of the two had intended to give the badge to the older as a gift due to similarities of the name.

The case was being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief that causes loss or damage.
