Muar cops arrest man for allegedly sexually assaulting teenager


MUAR: The police have arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenager here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said that the suspect is a local man and added that he was arrested at 8pm at Parit Keroma, Jalan Junid here on Wednesday (Jan 10).

"The suspect is believed to be the boyfriend of the 17-year-old victim's mother. Based on the initial investigation, the incident happened on Monday (Jan 8) when the victim's mother was out at work," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 11).

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which is punishable by a prison term of up to 20 years and caning.

"We urge the public to be wary of such crimes, which could harm a child's emotional and mental health," he said, adding that the suspect is being remanded for six days starting Thursday.
