KK-Penampang-Putatan outer ring road 80% complete, says Hajiji


KOTA KINABALU: The 21.7km stretch of the Pan-Borneo Highway between Putatan and Inanam is nearly 80% complete, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the RM788,379,040.72 Putatan - Inanam road project is part of the 35 Pan-Borneo ongoing road packages under Phase 1 being implemented in the state and is expected to be complete by November of this year.

Hajij said that it would provide an outer ring road link between the neighbouring districts of Putatan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu City.

Hajiji made a site visit to the project to check on its progress and was briefed on the progress by State Public Works Department (PWD) deputy director (Pan Borneo Highway Sector) Mohd Shamsul Nizam Abdul Wahid.

The work includes the construction of three new bridges crossing Sungai Moyog, a Dry Bridge at Kampung Kolopis.

It also includes three vehicular box culverts in Kampung Kolopis and Kampung Kitobu and seven new interchanges at Putatan, Jalan NC Mogunting 1, Jalan NC Mogunting 2, Donggongon, Jalan Penampang Tambunan and Bukit Padang as well as the 2.1km spur road to Bukit Padang.

As of Dec 31, 2023, four packages under Phase One have been completed.

These are the Papar - Donggongon road, the Tawau - Semporna road, the Lahad Datu bypass and the Kampung Lot M - Sandakan Mile 32 road.

Another 11 work packages are still in progress while five packages are under the procurement process and 15 work packages have yet to take off under Phase 1B.

The 1,236 km Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project is being implemented in three phases.

Phase 1 is Sindumin -Kota Kinabalu - Kudat; Ranau - Mile 32 Sandakan; Mile 32 Sandakan – Tawau (706km) while Phase 2 is Tamparuli - Ranau (98km) and Phase 3 is Tawau – Kalabakan – Keningau – Kimanis (432km).

Present during Hajiji's visit was Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya.
