CCTV footage shows man falling into drain, Kluang cops say it could be missing army veteran

KLUANG: An Army veteran who was reported missing is believed to have fallen into a drain on Jalan Ismail here, says Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Nor.

He said after a report was lodged, police launched an investigation on Friday (Dec 15) morning, which included checking footage from nearby closed-circuit televisions (CCTV).

Footage from the Eng Choon Association building showed someone falling into a big drain near Sungai Mengkibol at about 4.15pm on Friday, he said.

"A search operation by the police, fire and rescue team, and Civil Defence Force covered the drain and the bottom of Sungai Mengkibol.

"The victim is believed to have fallen into the drain after stumbling over a hole that was filled with water due to flash floods Friday night," he told reporters after surveying the operation control centre in Kampung Palembang here.

Bahrin said the search spanned three kilometres downstream of Sungai Mengkibol with three police boats and a Fire and Rescue Department boat.

"Due to bad weather, we stopped the search at 6.30pm on Friday and will resume at 8am on Saturday (Dec 16)," he said.

Meanwhile, Kluang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Fauzi Md Nor said the operation involved eight personnel.

Earlier, a retiree from the Special Forces Group, Ab Manan Keri, 73, dressed in the Commando Veterans Club uniform, did not return home after attending an event at Dataran Tasik Kluang here. – Bernama
