MELAKA: A Form Five student who attacked and attempted to molest an 11-year-old girl after watching pornography has been arrested by Melaka police.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said the 17-year-old suspect was detained at a playground at Alor Gajah here on Wednesday.
He said the suspect tried to molest the Year Five pupil while she was playing with her seven-year-old cousin in a back alley at Taman Krubong Jaya at about 7.40pm.
DCP Zainol said the victim’s 35-year-old mother lodged a police report at the Tanjung Minyak police station on the incident.
Based on the report, the victim and her cousin said that a stranger had knocked them off their bicycles while they were riding along the alley.
“The suspect then attempted to sexually assault her, but the victim fended off the attack by kicking him,” he said.
DCP Zainol said the suspect was apprehended by members of the public who then called the police.
He said a team from Tanjung Minyak police station took custody of the suspect who will be investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
DCP Zainol added that the suspect has been remanded until Dec 5.
It is learnt that the suspect had apparently watched obscene materials on his mobile phone before the assault took place.
