Conspiracy or otherwise, video scandal a disgrace, says Perikatan MP

KUALA LUMPUR: A government agency being at the centre of an alleged conspiracy to bring others down is disgraceful, says an Opposition lawmaker.

Ahmad Fadhli Shaari(pic) (PN-Pasir Mas) told the Dewan Rakyat that if the Community Communications Department (J-Kom) is to continue, the government must be selective and thorough in choosing the agency's head.

Citing a lewd video which recently went viral, Ahmad Fadhli said the incident should serve as a lesson to the government.

While he did not name names, Ahmad Fadhli alluded to a video that implicated the department's former director-general, Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff.

Mohammad Agus had denied the video's veracity, saying it had been doctored to tarnish his reputation.

“If the video is authentic, it is disgraceful," Ahmad Fadhli said when debating the Communications and Digital Ministry’s allocation under Budget 2024 on Wednesday (Nov 22).

"If the video is not authentic and it is a conspiracy by (people) within a government agency, then that is worse as a government agency was made into a den to spread disgraceful videos and bring other people down," he added.

When questioned by police at Kajang police headquarters on Monday (Nov 20), Mohammad Agus revealed the identity of one "Mr H", said to be a high-ranking individual, whom he alleged was responsible for doctoring the video.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that Mohammad Agus had provided his statement, while Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the Bukit Aman classified crimes investigation unit was investigating the case.

The IGP had also said Bukit Aman would summon the individual known as "Mr H".
