KUALA LUMPUR: Six individuals, including three civil servants, were detained for allegedly extorting and wrongfully confining a man.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a foreigner lodged a report at about 10.20pm on Nov 8, claiming that his uncle had asked him to save him by bringing a sum of money.
“The complainant also received a phone call from an unknown individual warning him against lodging a police report,” he said in a statement.
Following investigation, three civil servants and three other individuals were detained at about 9.30pm on Nov 10, he said.
“We are still tracking down three other suspects,” he added.
Comm Hussein said the investigation would be conducted with transparency without protecting any party.
“We hope all parties will not speculate on the case,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Sections 385 and 342 of the Penal Code.
