Pahang govt contributes RM25,000 to bring job scam victim's body home

KUANTAN: The Pahang government has donated RM25,000 to help bring home the remains of an alleged human trafficking victim who died in Myanmar.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state executive council agreed to the donation to help the family of Muhammad Izzat Abdul Wahab bring his body back to be buried in his hometown here.

"The Pahang government expresses its condolences to the family of the late Muhammad Izzat who died while under detention at the Tachileik immigration centre in Myanmar on Oct 14," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 19).

Wan Rosdy also advised the public to be careful when accepting any offer to work abroad and make sure it is valid to avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking.

It was reported that Muhammad Izzat, 28, had received a job offer before he went missing.

He was believed to have been rescued from a hotel in Myanmar before being handed over to the country's immigration authorities.

However, Muhammad Izzat died while under detention.

According to Semambu assemblyman Chan Chun Kuang, the deceased's body is still in Myanmar awaiting autopsy.

Chan said Muhammad Izzat left behind a wife and two children, aged four and six.
