KUALA LUMPUR: It was a day of gratification and joy for local postal industry workers during the World Post Day 2023 celebrations where they were given recognition and rewarded for their services.

The celebrations, held at the Pos Malaysia Bhd headquarters here yesterday, saw Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressing the government’s appreciation to the national courier and its employees for their decades-long excellent service.

Also present was Pos Malaysia Bhd group chief executive officer Charles Brewer.

Fahmi presented several Pos Malaysia veteran workers with honorary service awards that included a unique stamp portrait and certificate to thank them for their service.

“This annual celebration is important as it reminds people of the history and impact that postal services have had on our growth as a nation and the current world.

“We must continue to honour the importance of the industry as a global institution that continues to serve as an important source of long-term careers for the people,” Fahmi said in his speech.

As part of the celebrations, Brewer said a number of activities and promotions would be rolled out across its post offices nationwide.

This includes up to 20% off for domestic parcels and international deliveries, 50% off on Setem Ku individual purchases and free motorcycle road tax with motorcycle insurance renewals at all its post offices across the country until Friday.

The top “spenders” nationwide will also stand a chance to win a 5g gold wafer during the same period.

Those who spend at least RM20 will also stand a chance to win a RM10,000 cash prize as part of Pos Malaysia’s Senang-Menang Contest, which runs until Nov 30.

Meanwhile, a meet-and-greet session with Malaysian actor Shaheizy Sam was held at Pos Malaysia’s Shah Alam general post office (GPO) yesterday.

Another meet-and-greet session was held with Malaysian Football League players at the Kedah GPO.

Other meet-and-greet sessions with the football players will be held today at the Perak GPO from noon until 1pm, Terengganu GPO on Wednesday from noon until 1pm and Pahang GPO on Thursday from 11am until noon.

At the company’s Pos Shop convenience stores, customers can enjoy offers such as “buy one, free one” ice cream, purchase-with-purchase offers and chances to win up to RM30 worth of Pos Shop vouchers from 11am to 6pm every day until Friday.

Brewer also unveiled a unique commemorative stamp design for World Post Day to symbolise the enduring legacy of postal services, which was then signed by Fahmi.

The event concluded with the flagging off of Pos Malaysia’s first fleet of five electric vans by Fahmi as part of the courier’s commitment to a sustainable future.

The fleet will be part of the 143 electric vans that will be introduced by the end of this year.

It is set to join the courier’s existing fleet of 105 electric bikes that have been deployed across Klang Valley, Johor, Kedah, Penang and Perak as part of its nett-zero mission by 2050.

“We are proud of the essential role that we play in helping to build trust and connect Malaysians for a better tomorrow and as a ‘lighthouse’ in championing sustainability for both Malaysia and the logistics sector.

“The inauguration of our first electric vans marks a significant step forward towards achieving our goal of making 100% of our deliveries via electric vehicles by 2030,” said Brewer.
