Back GPS in Jepak by-election, Opposition told

SIBU: A Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth wing leader says the state Opposition should support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the Jepak by-election.

Jepak PBB Youth chairman Mohamad Asraf Mohammed Tudin said the people of the state had shown their confidence in GPS in the December 2021 state election, where the coalition won 76 of the 82 seats at stake.

"The confidence of the people (is reflected in) the process of governance, transparency, internal checks and balances and other practices by the GPS government," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 29).

"It is important for us to maintain strength and stability for the sake of Sarawak's children.

"I (therefore) call on the Opposition in Sarawak to support GPS in order to have a strong voice in our fight for Sarawak's rights," he added.

The Election Commission has fixed Oct 21 for nominations and Nov 4 for polling.

The Jepak seat fell vacant following the Sept 15 death of assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who had held it since 1996.
