Driver killed after his car is dragged by runaway lorry


SEREMBAN: A runaway lorry crashed and dragged a Proton Persona into a ditch along Jalan Bukit Tangga near here, causing the death of the car driver.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the incident took place near the Jeram Toi recreational forest and that the lorry was heading towards Jelebu.

“Due to the impact of the crash, both vehicles landed in a 6m-deep ditch. The car was also completely destroyed in an ensuing blaze,” he said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the lorry driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while descending a hill.

The driver also suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital.

He said firemen managed to extricate the charred remains of the car driver about two hours later.

Acting Jelebu police chief Asst Supt Goh Kay Lun said police were still trying to establish the identity of the car driver.
