Stroke survivor killed in fire in Penampang home

KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed in a fire at a village close to SK Babagon, Penampang, Tuesday (Sept 26).

The charred remains of the victim, identified as 68-year-old Liew Ah Ngou Liew Sun, was found in the bedroom area of the destroyed house.

Penampang Fire Station chief Zeno Tinggalan said according to information they received, the victim is a stroke patient who lived alone.

“There was no way the victim could have escaped the fire on his own. He was a stroke patient,” he said.

He said firemen received a distress call on the incident at around 9.07am, and rushed to the scene.

“We received a call from who we believe was the neighbour. However, when firemen arrived, the whole house was already engulfed in flames,” said Zeno.
