CCTV footage exposes evil stepbrother

KAJANG: A stepbrother to a four-year-old girl who drowned in a swimming pool at an apartment in Bangi earlier this month has been detained by the police.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the 27-year-old was arrested on Sunday after police scrutinised CCTV footage of the scene.

“Based on our checks, we discovered the man was near the pool when the incident occurred.

“He only looked at the victim drowning without doing anything to save her,” he said in a statement.

A report of the incident was lodged by a medical officer from Hospital Serdang, who treated the victim on Sept 13.

“Investigation showed the victim drowned in a swimming pool at about 3pm. She was initially brought to a clinic before being sent to Hospital Serdang.

“She died the next day after receiving treatment, and the case was initially classified as sudden death,” said ACP Mohd Zaid.

“The case is classified under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.

“We urge those with information to contact investigating officer Insp Muhammad Azrul Nizam Zainal Abidin at 016-998 5730 or the nearest police station,” he added.
