Restaurant worker assaulted, threaten with knife, at Pandan Utama

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a man for assaulting a waiter near a restaurant at Pandan Utama.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the incident occurred around 6pm Tuesday (Sept 12) in front of a restaurant at Lorong Pandan Pertama 5, Pandan Utama, Ampang.

"The suspect called the victim, a 34-year-old foreigner who worked at the restaurant, to a motorcycle workshop.

"He went over, and the suspect suddenly threw a chain and padlock toward the victim and also tried to hit the victim's head with the chain," said ACP Mohd Azam in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 12).

He said the suspect also pulled and pointed a knife at the victim but was restrained by the other restaurant waiters.

"The victim suffered injuries and swelling to his fingers and received treatment at the Ampang Hospital.

"We believe the incident was caused by the suspect, who got upset that the victim kept asking him to settle a debt," said ACP Mohd Azam.

He added that police arrested a 41-year-old local man in connection with the case.

He said checks revealed that the suspect has four prior records for criminal offences, and a urine test also returned positive for drugs.

"We have seized a chain and lock as well as a meat cleaver. The suspect has been remanded for four days to help with further investigations," said ACP Mohd Azam, adding that the case was being investigated as voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.
