MELAKA: A former clerical assistant at the Melaka Religious Department (JAIM) was charged at the Sessions Court here with four counts of cheating involving RM154,000, which were related to the payment of emoluments.
Muhammad Anuar Md Zin, 38, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him before Judge Elesabet Paya Wan yesterday.
Based on the charge sheet, the accused had allegedly convinced four part-time teachers that the official receipts meant for the reimbursements of allowances allotted to them were genuine. The reimbursements were made in relation to their resignations between Dec 1, 2016 and Nov 30, 2018. The total payout was RM154,864.40.
The accused had allegedly committed the offence between Nov 8, 2017 and July 19, 2018, at JAIM’s human resources section in Melaka Tengah district.
All charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years and whipping upon conviction.
Prosecution was carried out by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Nur Syakila Yaacob, while the accused was represented by counsel Mohd Nazri Abd Hamid.
The court granted a bail of RM10,000 and ordered the accused to report to the MACC office every month until the end of the proceedings in the case. The court fixed Sept 15 for mention.
