Zahid has betrayed Umno, says Muhyiddin

KUALA TERENGGANU: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claims he would have toppled Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and become Umno president if he was still with the party.

He said Ahmad Zahid went against Umno’s struggles by deciding to work with Pakatan Harapan, which has the DAP as one of its component parties.

Muhyiddin said Ahmad Zahid had betrayed Umno multiple times, as well as him (Muhyiddin) when he was prime minister.

“He betrayed us when we were the government by revoking Umno’s support.

“He also betrayed his own party when he decided to join forces with Pakatan and DAP to form the unity government,” he said in an address to Seberang Takir voters here yesterday.

Muhyiddin was expelled from Umno in 2016 when he was then party deputy president.

He was appointed prime minister in February 2020 and resigned in August 2021 after he lost support.

He said if Perikatan manages to gain the bulk of the votes in the state polls, it would serve as a signal that the unity government is being rejected.
