Trade unionist G. Rajasekaran passes away

KLANG: Former Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) secretary-general G. Rajasekaran passed away on Sunday (Aug 6) at the Assunta Hospital. He was 81.

Rajasekaran - who was the MTUC secretary-general from 1992 to 2010 as well as the president of several regional labour organisations - was regarded as one of Malaysia's most formidable trade unionists.

He worked as a team with former MTUC president Tan Sri Zainal Rampak and the duo were some of the most successful trade unionists in the country.

In a statement, MTUC secretary-general Kamarul Bahari Mansor said Rajasekaran's sacrifices for the betterment of the nation's workforce will not be forgotten.

"He would always speak about how to uphold the dignity of the country's workers," said Kamarul Baharu.
