Elon Musk wanted to meet me, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Billionaire Elon Musk contacted and wanted to meet him, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim

“(Musk) contacted me and he said he wanted to speak to Prime Minister Anwar and I said yes. He then said I followed your life history and journey," said Anwar.

“Alhamdulilah someone followed (my life story). When he called he said he wanted to bring Tesla, Starlink and SpaceX,” the Pakatan Harapan chairman added at the Jelajah Perpaduan Madani Ceramah here on Sunday (Aug 6).

“It is for the people. I don’t need a Tesla or Starlink Internet. There is (Internet) in Seri Perdana," he added.

Anwar also took a dig a former economy minister by saying that he only managed to meet Musk’s manager and added that there was no investment following that meeting.

While he did not name anyone, he appeared to be alluding to Bersatu's Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

"Did Elon Musk come (to see Azmin)? Was there any investment? No," he added.

On July 14, Anwar said that he held a call with Musk to discuss automaker Tesla's investment in the country and SpaceX's satellite communications service.

Malaysia had earlier this year approved electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla's application to import battery-run EVs into Malaysia. Tesla's operations in Malaysia will begin this year.
